San Antonio Project ** — 2002:

San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries (SAMM)

Description of activity:

Photographs from San Antonio Event

In true Texas form, kilt and cowboy boots were the attire for at least one Wooster Scot who participated in the service day in San Antonio. A total of 17 area alumni and friends attended to aid the San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries homeless shelter as our part of the national effort. We were fortunate to have Rev. Bill Lytle '44, a former Presbyterian pastor whose church had been involved in the early years of the SAMM ministry, provide us with a brief history of the project where we would be working. We were quickly put to work organizing donated goods and/or interacting with the shelter's children in their reading room. The warehouse and donation area never looked so good, and the SAMM children had the benefit of a professional reading teacher (Martha Ramos). We enjoyed a box lunch together, where it was announced that the graduates of the 1970's won the prize for having the greatest representation. Hating to see this Wooster gathering end, some of us enjoyed a wonderful Mexican food dinner together that evening. There are now a few more San Antonians who know about The College of Wooster and its wonderful alumni.
