Washington, D.C., Project — 2001:

Anacostia Watershed Improvement — Tree Planting Day

The D.C. Scots-In-Service project was a tree-planting day, organized through the Anacostia Watershed Society ("AWS" or "Society"). The goal of AWS was to achieve a swimmable, fishable river and to restore and protect the local river environs by 2012. We planted trees in parkland surrounding the river to help control run-off, create a wildlife habitat, and improve the health of the river itself. The Society requires that all trees be native species, and the species are mixed to encourage diversity of wildlife.
